A Georgia woman, aged 76, allegedly forced her way into a trailer home and opened fire on her former husband and his girlfriend, killing both, because she refused to accept their romance, authorities said. Grace Edge was taken into custody and charged in the deaths of her ex-spouse, Wallace Truman Edge, 75, and his girlfriend Pamela Cook, 40, following the Monday afternoon attack at a residence in Toombs County, Ga., officials said.
Fatal Shooting in Uvalda Home
According to officials, Edge entered the home on McNatt Falls Road in Uvalda, Ga., and carried out the attack, discharging her weapon five times. Wallace Edge and Cook sustained a combined four gunshot wounds and were declared dead at the scene, WTOC reported. Cook's 55-year-old mother, Diane Cook, was present inside the home when the gunfire erupted. She dialed 911 before being struck in the arm. "She just come in start shooting," the older Cook said in a call to police, according to the outlet. The distressed caller informed the dispatcher that no argument had preceded the shots, saying, "No, she come in just shooting.” Divorce and a New Relationship
Officials disclosed that the Edges had been divorced for more than ten years but maintained an intermittent relationship until Wallace Edge started seeing the 40-year-old Cook. “Mr. Edge had started dating Pamela, and it appears that based on information we received that Grace was not accepting of the situation,” Toombs County Sheriff Jordan Kight told WTOC. Grace Edge was apprehended soon after the shooting. “We believe she had drove straight from the residence where this happened and drove straight here to the sheriff’s office,” Kight said. Previous Police Calls and Charges
Kight said the former couple had repeatedly summoned deputies to their home, each accusing the other of domestic disputes and other incidents. According to the outlet, none of the dozens of prior incidents resulted in an arrest. Toombs faces seven charges in the double slaying, including two counts of Malice Murder, 2 counts of Murder and three counts of Aggravated Assault. She is being held at the Toombs County Detention Center awaiting her first court appearance, according to police.← Back to Politics
